State departments of education, business associations, professional organizations, and advocacy groups have developed guidelines for the use of corporate-sponsored materials in schools and for promotion of appropriate relationships between business and public schools. We encourage educators, parents, and others to review these guidelines.

The Seattle School Board has unanimously
approved a comprehensive and far-reaching set of nutrition-related policies that will ban sales of all foods
containing high levels of sugar and fat, improve the quality and appeal of school meal programs, and prohibit
contracts with beverage vendors for "exclusive pouring rights."

importance of healthy eating and physical activity among children and youth to combat the growing national
epidemic of childhood obesity.

curricular materials that promote corporate interests.
